Semen Gresik Performs Successful Major Overhaul with Zero Accident and Zero Confirmation of COVID-19 Case
Rembang, May 19, 2022 - Rembang Factory of PT Semen Gresik (PTSG) had performed a major overhaul in 2022. This cement company utilizing cutting-edge technologies with a production capacity of 3 million tons per year performed the overhaul for 22 days, completed at the end of April 2022.
During the overhaul, Semen Gresik applied the principles of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and strict health protocols, resulting in success with zero major accidents and zero confirmation of the COVID-19 case.
PTSG's Senior Manager of Communication and CSR Unit, Dharma Sunyata, emphasized that the overhaul was conducted to return and maintain the performance of the factory equipment so it could continue to operate efficiently and be available. Moreover, PTSG intended to show its responsibility for securing the total production capacity and sales quality.
"The overhaul is conducted once a year based on the scheduled equipment maintenance. The factory needs routine and thorough inspections. The overhaul can help restore the equipment normality by repairing and replacing damaged parts," said Sunyata in a press release on Thursday (19/5).
Sunyata continued that the overhaul covered the extensive repairs in all factory equipment, such as replacing the brick in the kiln, replacing the castable, reconditioning the rawmill, reconditioning the coal mill, reconditioning the cooler, reconditioning the crusher, and so on.
The success in achieving zero accidents during the overhaul, he added, was attributed to the company's strong commitment to the OHS compliance rules. The compliance included the identification of potential hazards in every work area along with the mitigation and the regular implementation of the safety talk and safety meeting programs.
"We intensively promote the OHS to the workers and work unit through several programs, such as Kejar K3 and K3 Corner," he claimed.
Sunyata pointed out that the company applied the health protocols in every overhaul activity involving more than 1,200 workers. This regulation applied to the employers, vendors providing the goods and services, visitors, and anyone entering the company's areas. Before entering the work area, all personnel must undergo scanning or check in on the PeduliLindungi application, and they will only be permitted if they have a green barcode (the person has received the first and second dose of COVID-19 vaccines).
In addition, the company had submitted a request for recommendations to the Chairperson of the Task Force for the Acceleration of Handling COVID-19 in Rembang Regency regarding the overhaul activities.
"Referring to this recommendation, we require all personnel, including the vendors, to take an antigen swab test and undergo screening before entering the location. Also, we supervise the activities by involving the Safety Officers and Safety Volunteers formed by assigning the representatives of several work units," Sunyata explained.
